Coming out of the major wine-producing state of South Australia, this Chardonnay shows elegant notes of honeydew melon, white peach, and some light citrus. Penfolds Wine was established in 1844 by Dr. Christopher and Mary Penfolds. By 1884, when Mary died and passed control of the winery on to her daughter Georgina, Penfolds was producing ⅓ of all the wine made in South Australia. By 1907, Penfolds had become South Australia’s largest winery. The wines are globally celebrated for their craftsmanship and diversity. Named after one of the Barossa Valley vineyards, the Koonunga Hill Chardonnay reflects the winery’s multi-region and multi-vineyard blending policy. To ensure that each vintage released is consistent quality wine, grapes are selected from various plots in vineyards across several different regions where Penfolds owns vines. The result is a wine with light to medium body which sees seasoned oak for only six months. On the palate this wine delivers a crisp, zesty acidity which supports a full array of ripe stone fruit and an underlying fresh grassy note.
