Serio e Battista Borgogno Barolo, "Cannubi", 2013

Scions of a legacy on the Cannubi hill in the heart of Barolo stretching back over one hundred twenty years, the family-owned and -operated Cantina Serio e Battista Borgogno continues to do today exactly what founder Francesco set out to do in 1897: make stellar, uncompromising Barolo that speaks to the unique elegance that can be drawn out of the soils of Cannubi. 100% Nebbiolo grown in a soil of fine sand and limestone. Fermented in stainless before seeing an additional 30 months in neutral Slavonian oak. Aged for an additional six months after bottling. A particularly refined, supple expression of Barolo -- mulberry, tobacco leaf, red and yellow cherries, black tea. Graphitic and structured but not tarry, good to age but also eminently drinkable young with proper decanting. Drink now-2035.
