The Champagne house of Déhu Père et Fils was founded in 1787. Benoit Déhu represents the eighth generation of vignerons at this historic but under the radar estate located on the far Western edge of the Vallée de la Marne. After a fruitful stint at Bollinger, Benoit returned to the family domaine and immediately began steering the estate towards organic and biodynamic viticulture. Since 2013, the estate has been producing its own barrels. Dehu is committed to natural farming and aims to craft unadultered, pure Pinot Meunier. The Cuvee La Rue de Noyers, named for the walnut trees that line the vineyard, is 100% Pinot Meunier that is biodynamically farmed on a 1.70 hectares parcel of limestone soil located in Fossoy on the western edge of the Vallee de la Marne. (And a quarter of the property is worked with a horse named Violette.) Vinified in oak barrels, many of which are made from trees from the forest of Fossoy. No malo and unfined and unfiltered. Aged in oak barrels. No dosage. A rich, ample wine built on texture and layers of deep, resonant fruit. From the very first taste, it shows itself to be a Champagne of real breadth. Hints of orange peel, roasted nuts, minerals, ash, chamomile, dried flowers and spice all flesh out in the glass.
