A small, family run estate in Buxeuil, in the Aube or Cote des Bar. The family has been tending to the Kimmeridgian clay and limestone since 1642, and first started producing wine in 1927. In addition to the “big three”, the estate also grows Pinot Blanc, and heirloom varietals Petit Meslier, and Arbanne. There are just over 20 hectares of vineyards. All champagnes are aged a minimum of three years on the lees.Champagne Moutard produces a range of Champagnes from their own grapes and grapes from their winemaking friends close by. They embrace the traditional varietals (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) and are one of the few champagne houses permitted to grow the forgotten varietals of Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc. Centuries of Champagne production have allowed Champagne Moutard to strike an artful balance between showcasing the specificity of the Côtes des Bar soil (imparting fruity aromas and exquisite mineral notes) while also becoming artful blenders that consistently produce exquisite Champagnes. The blending of Moutard wines (product held from several years back), enables Champagne Moutard to offer a range of Champagne of reliable quality that also represents the rich, full mineral taste of the Côtes des Bar region. 100% Pinot Noir from the Cotes de Bars. The grapes are hand harvested, sorted, and cool fermented in steel. Aged 3 years on the lees with 10g dosage. Tropical hints of papaya and passion fruit are enlivened by bright and tangy acidity, layered on the lively bead with flavors of Gala apple, blanched almond and fresh ginger. Well-knit and vibrant, with a sleek, minerally finish.
