Les Chancelieres Vouvray, 2014

This wine is composed of 100% Chenin Blanc grown in the Loire Valley region of North-Western France. The grapes come from the Vouvray appellation in Touraine, nearly 100 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean, where the climate is mostly continental and Chenin Blanc vines makes up most of the viticulture. The vineyard is comprised of about ten acres which overlook the Loire River. The vines are an average of 45 years old, and can yield grapes with intense residual sugar, but also a nice balanced level of acidity to counter it. They are harvested, gently pressed, then fermented and aged in stainless steel. This wine drinks beautifully now, but one of the wonderful things about Vouvray Chenin Blancs is that they can take up to 40 years or so in a cellar and still drink well! On this wine, you may notice some subtle hints of quince and apricot with a touch of chalky minerality.
