Costers del Priorat was founded in 2002 as a joint venture between a grower in Belmunt del Priorat and a family from Penedès. Initially, the winery’s focus was limited to working with a single vineyard called Sant Martí planted in 1939. In 2007, winemaker Jose Mas Barberà joined Costers del Priorat. He departs from the idea of Priorat as a strong tannic wine to one that emphasizes elegance over power; following a philosophy to be gentle and allow the nuances of the wine to show through. Costers del Priorat's wines emphasize nuance and elegance over power, a philosophical departure from the strong, tannic wines that once defined Priorat. The blended cuvées paint a broad picture of the landscape, while the single vineyard wines showcase the individual microclimates of this diverse appellation. 60% Garnacha Tinto & 40% Samso. Grapes are sourced from three vineyards across the DO - Sant Martí, Les Solanes and Mas Alsera. Varietals are fermented separately in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then blended and aged 12 months in 3,000L Slovenian oak (medium-toast) from Garbelotto. Intense red with purple tones. It has a very fresh aroma, full of flowers and fruits sensations that are confirmed in the palate. It is cheerful and lively, and expresses citrus flavours and memories of summer stone fruits, such as peach and apricot. In the end it appears vibrant and enjoyable.
