Telmo Rodriguez is one of Spain’s pioneer winemakers, advocating native grape varietals tied to the climates and conditions of their sites, and making world-class wines from undiscovered as well as known regions. He studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux and was the winemaker at his family winery in Rioja, Remelluri, and then set off on his own. He now makes a range of wines using grapes sourced from growers in diverse viticultural areas of Spain, who emphasize biodynamic farming, traditional Spanish vine-training, exceptional terroir, and replanting with only massal selections. The Verdejo and Viura blend has year after year been called one of Spain’s best white wine values. The vines grow in high elevation lime and gravel soil, giving this wine a zest to match the grapes’ own intense floral aromatics. You will also find some stony mineral notes, citrus, and tropical fruit. A delicious mate for a lightly spiced roast chicken, or a white fish entrée with lemon sauce.
