Azienda Agricola Fay takes its name from its founder Sandro, who in 1971 began the work of expanding his family’s small estate winery, constructing a new production winery and expanding the family vineyards through judicious purchases of mountainside plots. Sandro’s children Marco and Elena now run the estate, which encompasses 14 hectares of steep, sandy vineyards in Lombardy’s Valgella region. The primary grape is Chiavennasca, Lombardy’s indigenous varietal of Nebbiolo, though the estate also has minor plantings of Merlot, Rossola Nera, and Pignola Valtellinese.

A wine done in the pasito style more often associated with Amarone, whereby the harvested grapes are allowed to partially raisinate in open-air boxes, concentrating the resulting flavors. An intense bouquet of baking spice, black cherry, Damson plum, balsamic, and toasted nuts. Robust tannins support a sumptuous, velvety mouthfeel. Drink now-2030.
