Groth Vineyards & Winery is located in the Oakville Appellation of the Napa Valley. In 1981 Dennis and Judy Groth bought a 121 acre property called Oakcross Vineyard. The next year they purchased another 44 acres South of Yountville, growing ripe and lush valley floor fruit. This land now makes up Groth Vineyards, where vineyard manager Ben Benson works with a skilled team to ensure that all farming practices are sustainable, and that the winery makes as little of an impact on the environment as possible. This includes the planting of cover crops to preserve soil moisture, and the replanting of vines to follow the natural direction of the Napa Valley to allow the cool breeze from the San Pablo Bay to more easily travel through the vines. This in turn decreases mold and fungal problems, leading to less need for environmentally harmful fungicides. These practices also include pruning and trimming the vines as they grow, to control the fruit yield to create big, lush wines. Remarkable rich and well-made, this Cabernet Sauvignon shows aromas and flavors of blackberry and blueberry, with a toasty vanilla note that comes from the 22 months the wine spends in Oak.
