Cain Cuvee "NV13", 2013

In 1980, Jerry and Joyce Cain purchased 550 acres, part of the historic McCormick Ranch, on Spring Mountain. Their vision was to develop a mountain vineyard dedicated to the classical blend of varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. As the project was coming into focus, the Cains were joined by Jim and Nancy Meadlock who became partners at the beginning of 1986, and, since the retirement of the Cains in 1991, have carried on as sole owners. The Cain Cuvée is the winery’s most creative endeavor. It’s about the style of Cain and the vision of what classical red wine can be. Drawing from specific vineyards, both mountain and valley, as well as two harvests, they strive to compose a wine of aromatic complexity that is truly silky and sits lightly and refreshingly on the palate. This wine is 60% 2012 fruit and 40% 2013 fruit, coming largely from the Spring Mountain District, with some Valley Floor fruit to round out the blend. 51% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. This wine is lush, with a rounded mouthfeel. Hints of black pepper, green bell pepper, hibiscus, with the darker forest floor notes giving a firm base and long finish. All wrapped together with good acid and medium tannins.
