“One for sadness, two for mirth, three for a wedding, four for birth”. Corvidae Wines is a subset of Owen Roe, a Washington-based negociant firm who buy grapes from small producers and bottle the wine under a variety of creative labels. Corvidae’s name comes from that of a family of birds which includes crows, ravens, rooks, and jays. They believe their Mirth Chardonnay is just what the name is -- happiness. The wine sees no oak, only stainless steel, which highlights the acidic, citrusy notes natural in Washington State Chardonnay. The wine offers a bouquet of jasmine and lilac blossoms on the nose, and crisp, tangy acid and minerality on the palate. This is all brought together by the rich complexity of the fruit and full body of the finished wine, showing flavors of golden apple, Bosc pear, and candied lemon peel.
